Holistic Management Course

This is a 5-day in-person and 7-session online course offered by Montana Working Lands Project and taught by Savory Field Professional and Holistic Management Educator, Eric Wickens of Wickens Ranch, supported by our Montana Working Lands Team.

Who is this class for?

This course is designed for current or aspiring land stewards, organizational leaders, ranchers, farmers, and anyone committed to making better decisions for land, people, and livelihoods using the Holistic Management framework.

You do not need to own land or manage a farm or business today. Whether you're preparing for future stewardship or exploring how this framework applies in your current role, we’ll guide you using real-world examples and case studies—so you're ready to apply Holistic Management when the time is right for you.

What to Expect from This Training

This training will deliver Savory Institute’s Holistic Management curriculum through real-world instruction on diversified working lands. Designed for active ranchers/farmers and land managers — but really applicable to everyone — this course will prepare you to regenerate land, businesses, and networks by applying system-level insight to your unique circumstances.

We believe in learning by doing. While not every concept is taught in the field, key topics are grounded in on-the-land experiences and practical application. You’ll leave with real plans in hand, a working knowledge of Holistic Management, and the confidence to take your next steps. You’ll also gain access to the global Savory Network for ongoing support and connection.

Expect to:

  • Learn in a collaborative, supportive environment

  • Gain tools for managing complexity, uncertainty, and change

  • Visit working land to see regenerative management in action

  • Create a full suite of plans tailored to your context

  • Satisfy the coursework requirement for Savory Professional Accreditation with the opportunity to take next steps if so desired

Whether you’re just starting out or refining your existing systems, this course will challenge, equip, and inspire you to manage holistically — for the long term.
